The One Where... 0 in Vienna 🏰🇦🇹

Viena era, sin duda, el último sitio al que esperaba viajar este año, pero por unas cosas y otras, ahí acabé, en la capital austriaca, a 0ºC ❄ todo el día, sin saber que sería mi último viaje durante un tiempo indefinido (véase CORONAVIRUS).

Indudablemente, el adjetivo que todos te dirán que define la ciudad, por excelencia, es señorial✨. Y sí, Viena es una ciudad señorial, no eres Sissi emperatriz pero casi, tampoco eres Napoleón paseando por el Palacio de Schönbrunn 🏰pero casi, y, sin duda, no eres Sigmund Freud sentado en el Café Landtman ☕, pero podrías serlo. La ciudad está bañada por el Danubio y por miles de turistas, aunque sea invierno y no puedas aguantar en la calle más de dos horas seguidas. Además, si te atreves a ir en estas fechas, tendrás la suerte de encontrarte con el Sueño sobre Hielo ☃, nueve mil metros de hielo se plantan cada año cerca del ayuntamiento para que los vieneses patinen y escuchen a Strauss 🎻.

Elegante es lo segundo que te dirán sobre Viena. Sus carruajes recorriendo las calles adoquinadas, sus palacios distribuidos por toda la ciudad como si jugáramos a poner casas en el Monopoly, sus iglesias y museos, sus cientos de cafés haciendo las delicias de foodies como yo, con colas tan largas como si hubiera un concierto de Justin Bieber; o edificios tan extraños y sacados de contexto como Hunderts Wassers Haus, donde ya no sabes si estás en Viena o en una sesión de psicoanálisis.

No nos olvidamos tampoco de su Ópera 🎶, una de las más importantes a nivel mundial y en la que cada temporada se representan alrededor de 300 obras. La cual, ninguno de sus arquitectos pudo ver acabar, y a la que la II Guerra Mundial casi reduce a cenizas. Pero en la actualidad, cuando paseamos por su exterior, observando el aura esmeralda que crean las pequeñas lucecitas que adornan su fachada, lejos quedan las desgracias de épocas pasadas, mientras resuena en nuestra cabeza melodías de Mozart y Strauss.

Además, Viena no es solo historia y señorío. Un poco alejado del centro, encontramos a Prater 🎠, el parque de atracciones más antiguo del mundo. Desde 1895, y sobre un antiguo coto de caza, se alza su noria 🎡 con sesenta metros de altura y atracciones sacadas de otra época. Al igual que la ciudad, el parque sobrevivió a las dificultades de la II Guerra Mundial 💣, y de las 30 cabinas que tenía su noria, solo 15 se pudieron recuperar tras el enfrentamiento, pero el resto descansan a los pies de la atracción, a modo de exposición y las cuales cuentan distintas etapas de la historia vienesa.

Como turista 👣, os voy a dejar por aquí las cosas que más me gustaron y que considero imprescindibles de Viena:

- Monumentos de Johann Strauss, Mozart, Beethoven y Goethe.

- Sueño sobre Hielo (si es invierno)

- El ayuntamiento de Viena

- Biblioteca Nacional de Austria

Sin duda, Viena tiene muchísimos más monumentos, palacios, cafés y rincones por los que perderse, pero si tenéis poquitos días, estos son los que no os podéis perder ‼

Y ahora, como Laura os dejo...una ruta gastronómica 🍴 por la capital austriaca 🇦🇹 (como no podía ser de otra forma) y las imágenes, que guardan para siempre lo que mi paladar ya no puede.

Café Sacher. La tarta Sacher es un bizcocho de chocolate, con un centro de mermelada y cobertura de chocolate, es el postre por excelencia de Viena. Además, este café está al lado de la Ópera, por lo que será imposible que te lo pierdas. SI tienes suerte, pillas una manifestación y cortan las calles, podrás entrar sin hacer cola, si no, tocará esperar.

Todavía no me he manchado las manos de 🍫, pero tengo la receta del café, así que en cuanto encuentre un momento...🍰

Purstner. En todas las guías de Viena recomiendan su plato típico, Wiener Schnitzel, o lo que es lo mismo, escalope de ternera empanado. Esta taberna con mesas de madera pesada, barriles gigantes que hacen de reservados y porciones desmedidas de comida, harán que te sientas como en un cuento de los hermanos Grimm.

Aunque el Apfelstrudel 🍎 es originario de Alemania, la región austriaca también ofrece sus versiones, entre sus muchos otros dulces. Las pastelerías adornan el centro de la ciudad, y es imposible no parar en alguna a reponer fuerzas.

Aunque parezca el típico helado de cono, en realidad es merengue recubierto de chocolate. Es un austrian winter ice cream schokokusse, o helado de invierno, según los vieneses, y lo suelen vender durante los meses más fríos, sobretodo en los mercados navideños.

Vienna was, without a doubt, the last place I expected to travel this year, but for a few things and others, there I ended up, in the Austrian capital, at 0ºC ❄ all day, not knowing that it would be my last travel for an indefinite time (see CORONAVIRUS).

Indeed, the adjective that everyone will tell you that defines the city, par excellence, it's stately✨. And yes, Vienna is a stately city, you are not Sissi the empress but almost, you're not Napoleon strolling around Schönbrunn Palace either, but almost, and you're certainly not Sigmund Freud sitting in the Landtman Café, but you could be. The city is bathed by the Danube and thousands of tourists, even if it is winter and you can not stand on the street more than two hours in a row. Also, if you dare to go on these dates, you will have the lucky to meet the Dream on Ice ☃, nine thousand meters of ice are planted every year near the town hall for the Viennese to skate and listen to Strauss 🎻. Elegant is the second thing they will tell you about Vienna. Their carriages roaming the streets cobblestone, its palaces distributed throughout the city as if we were playing houses in Monopoly, its churches and museums, its hundreds of cafes delighting foodies like me, with lines as long as if there was a Justin Bieber concert; or buildings as strange and taken out of context as Hunderts Wassers Haus, where you know if you are in Vienna or in a psychoanalysis session. Never forget its Opera 🎶, one of the most important worldwide and where each season around 300 plays are performed. Not to mention that none of its architects could see it finished, and which World War II almost reduced to ashes. But nowadays, when we walk around, observing the emerald aura that the small lights create and that adorn its facade, far are the misfortunes of times past, while melodies of Mozart and Strauss echo in our heads. As well, Vienna is not just history and lordship. A little far from the center, we find Prater 🎠, the oldest amusement park in the world. Since 1895, and on an old hunting ground, its ferris wheel stands 🎡 sixty meters high and attractions taken from another era. Like the city, the park survived the difficulties of World War II, and of the 30 cabins that had its Ferris wheel, only 15 could be recovered after the battle, but the remains rest at the foot of the attraction, as an exhibition, which tell different stages of Viennese history.

As a tourist 👣, I am going to leave you here the things that I liked the most and that I consider essential in Vienna: - Vienna secession - Vienna State Opera - Albertina Museum - Museum of Art History - Museum of Natural History - Maria-Theresien-Platz - Hofburg Imperial Palace - Hundertwasserhaus - Anker clock - Prater Amusement Park - Belvedere Palace - San Carlos Borromeo Church - Monuments of Johann Strauss, Mozart, Beethoven and Goethe. - Dream on Ice (if it's winter) - Vienna City Hall - Austrian National Library

Without a doubt, Vienna has many more monuments, palaces, cafes and corners to get lost in, but if you have a few days, these are the ones you cannot miss‼ And now, as Laura, I leave you ... a gastronomic route 🍴 through the Austrian capital 🇦🇹 (as it could not be otherwise) and the images, which keep forever what my palate can no longer.

Sacher Cafe. The Sacher cake is a cake, with a jam center and chocolate topping, it is the quintessential dessert in Vienna. Also, this cafe is next to the Opera, so it will be impossible to miss it. If you are lucky, you catch a demonstration and they cut the streets, you can enter without queuing, if not, you'll have to wait. I still haven't dirty my hands, but I have the recipe, so as soon as I find a moment ... 🍰

Purstner. In all Vienna guides they recommend your typical dish, Wiener Schnitzel, aka, breaded veal escalope. This tavern with heavy wooden tables, giant barrels that serve as reserves, and excessive portions of food, that feel like in a story by the Grimm brothers.

Although the Apfelstrudel 🍎 is native to Germany, the Austrian region also offers its versions, among its many other sweets. The patisseries adorn the center of the city, and it is impossible not to stop at some to regain strength.

Even though it looks like the typical cone ice cream, it is actually chocolate covered meringue, it is an Austrian winter ice cream schokokusse, or winter ice cream, according to the Viennese people, and they usually sell it during the coldest months, especially at the Christmas markets.
